Seperate Ways

27th September - 4th October 2012

We stayed at Gilligan's whilst in Cairns and most of us were in the same room which was cool. We spent most of the time sorting out job stuff so we didn't get to do an awful lot.

Gilligan's is a bit of party hostel so we had to test out the bar that night and it was a bloody good night out. I let out my inner raver which scared the others I think. I forgot that people at home are used to it by now. The next morning the cleaners stormed in at 9am which we were not expecting! They did that every day which got a little irrating but at least the place was clean.

Party
Cairns is much smaller than I thought. Its quite spread out but the theres only a few major streets in the centre. Theres quite a big port though and it has a lagoon on the sea front shaped like the state of Queensland. You can't swim in the sea because of all the things that want to kill you so it gets quite busy.

The weather was a bit hit and miss when we were there and it pissed down every now and then.

October arrived and Dennis had heard of an Oktoberfest party happening in Cairns so we decided we would go check it out. "Just around the corner," he said "10 minutes". 1 hour later we arrived and it was $20 to go in which we decided was too expensive and walked all the way back!

Living it up
True backpackers!

Mark and Shelly fancied a bit of luxury so they booked into a hotel over the road for 2 nights. The second night they invited us over for a bit of a party. We played ring of fire then jumped in the pool. We got told to stop making so much noise by the receptionist so we went back to the room. Brandon kept wandering off! Mark kept telling him to stay in the room but he wouldn't listen.

Then, coz we are all so grown up, we had a massive pillow fight as you do! Surprisingly we weren't kicked out of the hotel!

We were all struggling to find work in Cairns even though we were looking everyday. It was a bit frustrating. I had been going around handing out CVs but most said they had either just hired or they only hire girls!

But in the space of about 24 hours everything turned around and we all had plans or jobs. I had landed a job 5 hours north in a bush pub, Mark and Shelly had a job on an extremely remote island off the north coast, Beckie was going down to Airlie Beach, Brandon was off to do some volunteer work down south, Adam went to meet his cousin for work in Sydney and Dennis got a job in Brisbane. Least I think that's where everyone went.

This was a call for celebration so we went for another night out and this time we went to The Woolshed. There was a very lame wet t-shirt competition and we danced on the tables all night. It was a serious sweat fest!

Rave!
The family split it one by one as people went their separate ways and I was really quite sad to say goodbye. We had spent the best month of our lives with each other and done so much! But its not the end. We are all meeting up again in Sydney for Christmas and its gonna be friking awesome!
